The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled its 2025 MICHELIN Keys, introducing a global benchmark in hospitality excellence. The new recognition celebrates hotels that go beyond luxury, honouring those that excel across five pillars, which include exceptional architecture and design, quality of service, distinctive character, meaningful guest value, and a genuine contribution to their community. Just like the iconic restaurant stars, hotels can earn up to three Keys, reflecting their degree of distinction and excellence.
This year’s list celebrates outstanding properties from across Asia, featuring prominently in this year’s list, with several regions, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, the Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, which received their first-ever MICHELIN Keys. Japan and Thailand also saw new milestones, with Asaba Ryokan newly elevated to the coveted Three-Key category. These awards reaffirm the region’s growing prominence in the global hospitality landscape, highlighting both celebrated city landmarks and hidden retreats across mountains, coasts, and islands.
Among South Asian standouts, India and Sri Lanka saw impressive representation from the Relais & Châteaux portfolio. Ceylon Tea Trails in Hatton, Sri Lanka, earned Three Keys for its timeless charm and immersive experiences. In India, SUJÁN JAWAI in Pali and Sitara Himalaya in Manali received Two Keys each, while SUJÁN Sher Bagh in Ranthambore and Ran Baas The Palace in Patiala were recognised with One Key. The Kumaon in Uttarakhand also earned One Key for its breathtaking modernist architecture and mountain setting.
