Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the state’s longest flyover—the Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor—in Coimbatore on Thursday.
The 10.10km-long flyover, built between Uppilipalayam and Goldwins, is named after legendary industrialist G.D. Naidu, known as the 'Edison of India'.
The project, completed at a cost of Rs 1,791 crore by the Special Projects Wing of the State Highways department, is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city and significantly cut travel time between central Coimbatore and the airport.

The structure rests on 304 pillars and features 10 lanes. According to officials, the project has incorporated modern construction techniques and has been designed to minimise vibration and noise during vehicle movement.
The elevated corridor is likely to benefit industries, IT parks, and residents who usually depend on Avinashi Road, one of the busiest arterial routes of the city.
Earlier, while announcing the decision to name the flyover after G.D. Naidu, Stalin said only 5 per cent of the work had been completed when his government assumed office.
"Our Dravidian model government took charge of the 10.10 km-long flyover and swiftly completed the remaining 95% of the construction at a cost of Rs 1,791 crore," he wrote on X.
In Coimbatore, Stalin will also inaugurate World Innovation Summit 2025, He will lay the foundation stone for a Rs 126-crore Gold and Jewellery Industrial Park near the SIDCO Industrial Estate. |
