Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for the second time in two days on Thursday morning to stake his claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
Vijay had first met the governor on Wednesday, but the Lok Bhavan did not invite him to form the government, indicating that the Lok Bhavan was not fully satisfied with the actor-politician’s claim of support. Following this, plans for Vijay’s swearing-in as chief minister, scheduled for Thursday evening, were put on hold.
During the second meeting, Vijay reportedly informed the governor that his party is prepared to prove its majority on the floor of the House.

Reports indicate that the TVK chief may move court if the governor does not accept his claim this time. They said Vijay is consulting senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the legal options available.
The TVK won 108 seats in the Assembly elections held on April 23, falling short of the simple majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, even after the Congress, with five MLAs, offered support.
Vijay, who contested from both Perambur and Trichy East, will have to resign from one seat, which would lower the majority mark to 117 and reduce the TVK’s tally to 107.
