Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will head an Indian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Tuesday, where evolving geopolitical developments, particularly in West Asia, are expected to take centre stage.
Officials indicated that member states will likely deliberate on ways to mitigate the impact of ongoing regional conflicts. Iran, a member of the grouping, is also expected to participate in the discussions.
During the meeting, Singh is set to reiterate India’s commitment to global peace and stability, while reaffirming its firm stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
The SCO, a major regional political and economic bloc established in 2001 in Shanghai, will see defence ministers engage on a range of regional security challenges. Singh is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the summit. |
