Renowned wedding and event planner Rituraj Khanna has unveiled an ambitious proposal to establish an International Wedding City in Agra, a project he believes will transform the city into India’s next big hub for destination weddings. Speaking at the Indian Wedding Industries Conclave & Expo 2025, hosted in Agra, Khanna said a detailed proposal will soon be presented to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The proposed International Wedding City, estimated to cost ₹1,000 crore, will be developed across 200 acres of land, entirely funded by private wedding entrepreneurs. Khanna envisions it as a one-of-a-kind wedding township combining Rajput, Mughal, and Vedic architectural elements, complete with hotels, cottages, landscaped gardens, water bodies, and waterfalls. “Everyone wants to witness the Taj Mahal, the global symbol of love, making Agra the most fitting location for a world-class wedding destination,” Khanna said.
He added that while weddings cannot be held within historic monuments such as the Agra Fort, the proposed city will feature setups inspired by their grandeur. The site will have the capacity to host multiple weddings simultaneously and double as a venue for film and pre-wedding shoots during the off-season. Colleges and institutions will also be able to organize events there at affordable rates, making the facility accessible throughout the year.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Khanna shared that he had organized a wedding in Agra 12 years ago and is now returning with renewed optimism. Many of his clients, he noted, have already experienced weddings in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, but the charm and cultural richness of Agra remain unparalleled. “Agra’s heritage, hospitality, and location give it an unmatched advantage. With proper infrastructure, it can become India’s wedding capital,” he said.

Khanna also emphasized that other cities in Uttar Pradesh,  including Mathura, Vrindavan, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Noida, and Greater Noida, should be developed as regional wedding hubs, with Agra serving as the gateway. He said this would not only boost tourism but also create employment opportunities across multiple sectors, from hospitality to crafts and catering.

The proposal marks a major step in repositioning Uttar Pradesh as a wedding destination state, with Agra leading the way, combining its romantic legacy with modern hospitality infrastructure.
