The name kabaddi is derived from the Tamil word kai-pidi, which means holding hands. This sport is particularly popular in rural India and is also the national sport of Bangladesh. Kabaddi requires both physical strength and quick thinking, as raiders must chant kabaddi repeatedly during their raid to prove they are not inhaling.
In a typical kabaddi match, the playing area is divided into two halves. Each team takes turns sending a raider into the opponent\“s territory. Points are scored by tagging opponents or by preventing the raider from returning to their side. The game is played in two halves of 20 minutes each, with a five-minute break in between.
