BLS E-Services has taken a step toward strengthening India’s digital payment security by deploying more than 10,000 dedicated GPS devices across its Business Correspondent (BC) outlets nationwide. The move aims at providing precise geo-tagging and geo-fencing capabilities at BC points, enabling accurate capture of latitude and longitude details for every centre.
The initiative aligns with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) mandate for geo-tagging of payment touchpoints and banking infrastructure. According to bank guidelines effective from 1 November 2025, BCs are required to use GPS devices to offer AEPS and IMPS services, a measure designed to curb cyber and banking fraud. This comes at a time when digital payments are growing at more than 25 per cent annually, and UPI volumes have crossed 20 billion transactions a month.
BLS E-Services, a digital services provider and one of India’s largest BC operators, said it is now accelerating efforts to ensure 100 per cent GPS-enabled centres by FY 2027, boosting compliance and operational transparency across its network.
“The strategic deployment of over 10,000 dedicated GPS devices is a proactive measure that directly supports the RBI’s visionary framework. By ensuring pinpoint accuracy in geo-tagging, even in the most remote locations, we are not only fulfilling a critical regulatory mandate but also building a more secure, transparent, and trustworthy ecosystem for every merchant and citizen,” said Shikhar Aggarwal, Chairman of BLS E-Services Ltd. He added that the initiative will be pivotal in fraud prevention, resource optimisation and driving inclusive financial growth across India.
Through subsidiaries Zero Mass and Starfin India, the company operates more than 45,000 BC outlets as of 30 June 2025. These centres deliver banking, remittance, deposit and assisted financial services in rural and semi-urban regions, while also helping banks meet priority-sector obligations.
Aggarwal said that the GPS devices enable real-time location verification and high-accuracy mapping even in low-connectivity regions, ensuring one of the most secure and data-backed BC infrastructures in the country.
A key objective is to ensure the precision and reliability of geo-tagged data, essential for risk management and regulatory compliance. This becomes especially important in rural and remote pockets where weak mobile networks often affect the accuracy of smartphone-based location data. Dedicated GPS devices, however, enable reliable geo-coordinate capture even in offline environments.
With its latest deployment, BLS E-Services has positioned itself at the forefront of India’s mission to build a secure, inclusive and data-driven digital payment ecosystem. |
