The Delhi government has initiated an intensive inspection drive across its schools, placing classroom practices, teaching quality, and student progress under close review until February 2026. The Directorate of Education has instructed senior officials to conduct visits three times a week to ensure that academic programmes are being implemented effectively and learning gaps are identified at an early stage.
According to the directive, all additional directors, regional directors, and deputy directors of education are required to inspect schools on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Officials have also been asked to make additional visits during working hours whenever necessary, including at evening schools. The order emphasised close monitoring of new academic initiatives announced this year, including the New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision (Neeev), the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (Nipun), Sankalp, Rashtraneeti, and Science of Living.
As part of the exercise, inspectors must review mid-term examination outcomes, identify learning gaps, and pay heightened attention to low-performing schools. Lesson plans, teaching-learning materials, timetable adherence, and overall discipline among students and teachers will also form part of the assessment.
Each visit must include a minimum of 15 minutes of classroom observation. This will involve random oral or written student assessments, verification of syllabus completion, and checks on both teacher and student attendance. The inspections will also cover remedial teaching, enrichment activities, and peer-learning practices. Officers have been directed to evaluate the utilisation of libraries, sports facilities, computer labs, and science labs.
In addition, teams must examine sanitation standards and ensure that classrooms, hallways, and common spaces are clean and properly maintained. Fire safety systems, emergency exits, and playground facilities must also be reviewed. The Education Department will monitor the conduct of these inspections closely. These checks are in addition to the routine reviews already undertaken by district and zone-level officers, the order noted.
