The Greek Super League, known as Super League Greece, is the top professional football division in the Greek football league system. It was founded in 2006, replacing the Alpha Ethniki as the highest level of Greek club football.
The league consists of 14 teams that compete annually for the championship title. Some of the most successful clubs in the league\“s history include Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and AEK Athens, with Olympiacos holding the record for most titles won.
Each season, teams play each other twice in a round-robin format, once at home and once away. The team that finishes at the top of the table is crowned champion, while the bottom teams face relegation to the Football League.
The Greek Super League has produced many talented players who have gone on to successful careers in major European leagues. The league is known for its passionate fans and intense rivalries, particularly the Athens derby between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. |
