Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit New Delhi on 13 May for talks with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, with discussions expected to focus on trade, energy cooperation, regional security and preparations for upcoming high-level engagements between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the talks will review progress on agreements reached during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December 2025 and preparations for the next summit-level meeting between the two sides in Russia.
The ministers are also expected to discuss the next session of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said both sides would focus on expanding bilateral trade and strengthening transport, logistics and financial connectivity mechanisms insulated from what Moscow described as “unlawful external pressures”. Energy cooperation, as well as collaboration in science and space technologies, is also expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
Lavrov and Jaishankar will additionally exchange views on key international and regional developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East. The two leaders are also expected to discuss coordination within multilateral forums, including BRICS, the United Nations and the G20.
The Russian statement described India-Russia ties as resilient and independent despite global geopolitical shifts, adding that both countries share similar positions on major global issues and support a multipolar international order.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also expected to travel to New Delhi to participate in the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers.
On Wednesday, Jaishankar is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Chile, South Africa, the Maldives and Russia on the sidelines of the BRICS engagements in the national capital. |
