India Making Major Progress in Semiconductor Manufacturing: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union minister for Electronics and IT, Information and Broadcasting and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has asserted that India is making major progress in the development of Semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem that can provide end to end solutions for other countries. He was addressing media persons after unveiling the 2 nanometer semiconductor chip manufactured by Qualcomm in Bengaluru today.

The minister expressed confidence that India will be able to globally offer its talent in the Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor sector. Saying that there is a one million talent gap in the semiconductor sector, the minister said that most of this demand for talent will be filled by India within and outside the country. He informed that a target was set to train 85,000 engineers in Semiconductor, and in just four years 67,000 engineers in the country are trained in this specialisation. There are 315 Universities in the country where students are designing, tapping, validating Chip manufacturing processes. Under Semicon 2.O clear road map is laid down with focus on designing chip, manufacturing equipment and material, moulding a talent pool that can design the complete system from chip to motherboard.
