BMC polls: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are being held on Thursday, along with voting in 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including  Pune, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. The state government announced January 15 as a public holiday in regions where BMC polls are being conducted. 
Given that today is election day, numerous offices and institutions have either closed for the day or adjusted their operating hours. However, residents continue to receive essential services as usual. Here’s a full list of what’s open and what’s closed today.

What is closed today? 

Banks: Banks within Mumbai and other poll-bound regions will be closed today, both because of the civic polls and state-listed holidays like Makar Sankranti.
Schools and colleges: Many private schools and all government-run schools are expected to be closed. A holiday has been declared so that students and staff can vote.
Bars and Liquor Stores: During the election period, there is a four-day dry period from January 13 to January 16 in Mumbai and other municipal areas. This means that alcohol won’t be sold.


Government offices and public sector undertakings: All state and local government offices, public sector agencies, and semi-government offices are shut down because of the holiday.

Stock Markets: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed.

What remains open in Mumbai today?

Even though some services are closed, many are still open, ensuring that the city can function on election day.
Emergency healthcare services: Hospitals, police, ambulance services, and the fire department are still working.
Public transport: Local trains, metro services, BEST buses, and other essential public transportation will operate as usual.
Maharashtra Polling date and time

Polling booths in Mumbai are open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and people are being urged to participate in the civic polls. Election officials have also taken important measures to make voting easier for everyone and make sure people with disabilities, pregnant women, and senior citizens can get to cast their vote easily.
