Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin slammed the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance on Wednesday and charged that a proxy BJP government will govern the state if AIADMK is voted to power in the 2026 assembly polls. Stalin also slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly making communally charged comments against the state government.
Addressing an event in Dindigul, Chief Minister Stalin said, "Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami is striving only to bring a BJP government to power in Tamil Nadu. After the passing away of Jayalalithaa, a ‘proxy’ BJP government functioned in Tamil Nadu. Only in the last five years have we begun to recover from that and stand tall again. Now they are openly declaring that they want a BJP government."
Stalin charged that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led Centre has accorded stepmotherly treatment to the state, hence they faced crushing defeat in elections held in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections held between 2019 and 2024.
The DMK leader accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of making false comments about the state government's attitude towards the Hindu faith. "Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Tamil Nadu. Listening to what he spoke, one begins to wonder, was that 'Amit Shah' or was it 'Defamation Shah'?"

Condemning Shah's statements, Stalin said, "It seems he has no idea at all about what is actually happening in Tamil Nadu. Since the DMK government assumed office, we have conducted Kumbabhishekam at nearly 4,000 temples. True devotees are praising the DMK government. Under our rule, the list of achievements related to Hindu religious affairs is so extensive that one could speak about it for an entire day. That is why the Dravidian Model of governance is a government favoured by devotees, a government appreciated by spiritual leaders," Stalin claimed.
"We run an administration that respects the faith of people of all religions and safeguards their rights," he added. The chief minister said the communal designs of those trying to sow division in the state will fail.
