More allegations have surfaced against the teachers at the Delhi St Columba's School, where the class 10 student who committed suicide on Wednesday studied. A class 10 student, Shaurya Pradeep Patil, died by jumping from the platform of Rajendra Place Metro Station in Central Delhi after leaving a note blaming his teacher.
According to his father, the boy had alleged persistent mental trauma from school staff. “A few days ago, he fell on stage during dance practice. But the teacher taunted him, saying, "Cry all you want, I don't care." This incident left Shaurya deeply saddened. When his family complained, the school threatened to expel him,” local media reports quoted members of the Patil family.
Shaurya's father said he had been under stress for several months. When he complained, the school would tell him to "focus on his studies." The teachers were also unfriendly. One teacher had been threatening to call his parents and expel him for days. He was even pushed once,” his father told reporters.

Earlier, the student's aunt, who was part of the protest outside the school, alleged that Shaurya had been under stress for quite some time, but they remained silent due to the upcoming board exams. He repeatedly told her he was being harassed. We learned from his classmates that he had even told school counselors and teachers that he would commit suicide. No one informed them,” she added.
Shaurya’s sister claimed that he excelled in dance and theater and had recently won a competition, but the school did not even give him a certificate.
Meanwhile, four school employees have been suspended following the incident, including the headmistress. The school administration issued an order suspending the four teachers: Manu Kalra, Yukti Agarwal, Julie Varghese, and Aparajita Pal.
The headmistress of classes 4 to 10, the coordinator of classes 9 and 10, and two teachers have been relieved of their duties pending the completion of the investigation. This action is being described as preliminary, and a decision will be made based on the results of further investigation.
The Delhi Education Department confirmed on Thursday that a special committee has been formed to investigate the incident, which will review the school's conduct and the entire matter. |
