A 17-year-old, Class 11 student died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district after alleging that a male teacher hit her, police said. The case has come to light just days after the alleged suicide of a 16-year-old created outrage in Delhi.
The student hanged herself at home and left a handwritten note on November 16. In it, she accused a male teacher of harassing and holding her hand while hitting her. She also says that he challenged her to open his closed fist.
Police who spoke to PTI said that the teacher allegedly pressed a pen between her fingers under the pretext of punishment. She says in the purported note that the pain was so excruciating that she lost her will to live.
The teen’s family said that she was perfectly normal at home and alleged that someone at school “tortured” her. They demanded that police examine the student's call details and conduct a thorough examination of the school, as someone had harassed her.
