As Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and its leader Vijay are facing heat over the tragic stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu police booked a fresh case against the party over the incident. Police have booked actor-politician Vijay's campaign vehicle and its driver over accidents en route the actor's campaign tour.According to police, a case has been registered against the campaign vehicle driver over bizarre road mishaps that occurred on September 27, the day Vijay campaigned in Karur. On the day, a number of fans of Vijay, who were riding their motorcycles very close to the campaign bus, obviously to get a glimpse of the star, met with an accident allegedly involving the campaign vehicle.
The fresh case comes after the Madras High Court recently rapped the Tamil Nadu police for not taking a suo motu case against actor Vijay for the road accidents. In its order, the High Court observed, "It was further brought to the notice of this Court that the videograph presented by the learned senior counsel for the petitioner, which has also been widely circulated in both print and visual media, clearly shows that the bus carrying Vijay, the leader of the political party, was involved in an accident."

"In the footage, it is visibly evident that two motorcycles were involved in the accident, and that the driver of the bus, having seen the incident, fled from the scene," it said.
"This Court expresses its deep anguish and concern over the failure of the authorities to take action. Even in the absence of a formal complaint from the aggrieved parties, it is the duty of the State to register a suo motu FIR and ensure that the accused face trial in accordance with law," the court observed.
Meanwhile, the court-ordered Special Investigation Team (SIT) has begun probe over the tragic incident that claimed 41 lives. SIT head Asra Garg visited the stampede site on Sunday and inquired with local police about the incident.
