MBD Group celebrates 69 years of excellence and innovation
MBD Group has marked its 69th Establishment Day, celebrating nearly seven decades of excellence across education, hospitality, real estate, retail and other sectors. Founded in 1956 by the visionary Ashok Kumar Malhotra, the Group has consistently demonstrated a commitment to innovation, social responsibility and quality, evolving from a single bookstore in Jalandhar into a global enterprise.This year, celebrations were held across MBD offices and properties, including MBD House Delhi, Jalandhar, Radisson Blu MBD Hotel Noida and other international locations. The event began with a tribute to the Founder through a special audio-visual presentation, followed by a speech by Satish Bala Malhotra, Chairperson of MBD Group, who emphasised the enduring values and vision that continue to guide the organisation. The ceremonial lamp lighting, MBD Pledge and cake cutting set the tone for a day of unity and reflection. A dynamic opening performance, O Shera, featuring both internal and external artists, including a martial arts showcase, captivated the audience.
The programme featured a range of engaging performances, including a team skit and the HOD Act Aya Re Toofan, alongside award presentations that recognised the dedication and achievements of MBDians across departments and regions. Monica Malhotra Kandhari, Managing Director of MBD Group, highlighted the importance of innovation in education and EdTech, noting the impact of initiatives such as AASOKA and the Love to Learn campaign, which are transforming classrooms and extending tech-enabled learning to underprivileged schools.
The celebrations also placed a strong emphasis on recognising employees and their families. Scholarships were awarded to the children of MBDians in recognition of academic achievements, while appreciation awards honoured staff contributions throughout the year. Audio-visual segments showcased the company’s CSR initiatives under Ashok Karya and highlighted engagement stories from more than 60 offices across India and abroad.
Sonica Malhotra Kandhari, Joint Managing Director, spoke about her vision for growth in hospitality, retail and sustainability. She underlined the importance of delivering meaningful experiences while remaining true to the values of her late father, Shri Ashok Kumar Malhotra. She also expressed her gratitude to MBD employees for their unwavering dedication.
Under its newly consolidated CSR identity Ashok Karya, the Group showcased initiatives including an art exhibition featuring the work of differently-abled children, which generated sales worth ₹7 lakh, and the launch of a Robotics Lab on Wheels to bring STEM education to remote and underprivileged communities. These efforts, unveiled during the 69th Establishment Day celebrations, reinforced the Group’s dedication to creating meaningful social impact.
The day concluded with the MBD Anthem, followed by a collective thank-you note and a high tea, bringing together employees and partners in celebration. With a steadfast focus on quality, innovation and inclusivity, MBD Group remains committed to shaping a better future for learners, communities and the nation.
